Are you, or is someone you love, facing a decision about pregnancy?
Making a decision about whether to become a parent, have an abortion, or place for adoption can take time, and may be one of the most important and difficult decisions a woman will ever make. Experiencing a wide range of feelings is normal, and our Volunteer Talk Line Advocates are available to talk about all aspects of this decision-making process. We believe that women and their loved ones are better able to make thoughtful, empowered choices when they have support and accurate information.

Things can look very different when you’re pregnant.
Pregnancy is an opportunity to examine your hopes and dreams, who you can talk to, and what is good for you and your family—all of the really big issues in life! Backline’s purpose is to help you, and your loved ones, explore these issues in a safe, supportive, and confidential environment.
Who Calls Backline?
Women and their loved ones from all over the U.S. call Backline to talk about pregnancy, parenting, abortion and adoption. Some of our callers are making a decision about pregnancy, some of them have had an abortion, and some of them are already parents. Partners, friends, parents and other family members also call Backline—sometimes to talk about their own feelings about a pregnancy decision, and other times to find out how best to support the women they love in making these choices.
Abortion
If you are considering having an abortion, or if you have already had an abortion, your call to Backline can help you get the support you need. It is important to know that you are not alone. Over one million abortions are performed every year in the U.S., and women who have abortions come from every age group, political affiliation, religion, culture, race, and sexual orientation. Women who have abortions may already have children, or may be pregnant for the first time. While every woman’s story is uniquely her own, many woman experience similar questions and emotions surrounding the decision to have an abortion. Our Advocates are here to listen, answer your questions, and offer support and resources before and after your abortion procedure.
Adoption
Exploring the decision to place for adoption can be empowering, overwhelming, happy, sad, scary, exciting, and isolating. You may feel like everyone you talk to has their own opinion, and it can sometimes be hard to talk about all the different feelings you are having. Backline Advocates can answer questions about different types of adoption and can help you find people and agencies that will support you in the kind of adoption YOU want. We are available to talk with you throughout your pregnancy and after placement. Additionally, our Advocates can talk to your loved ones about the feelings they are having and how best to support you throughout the adoption process.
Parenting
Deciding to parent is one of the biggest decisions you will ever make. Whether you already have children or are considering parenting for the first time, deciding to parent a child can bring up feelings, questions, fears and desires you may have never considered before. Backline offers a place where you can talk about your pregnancy, think about your support network, explore resources, and share your thoughts and questions in a confidential and client-centered environment. We know that a wide range of feelings is normal, both during and after pregnancy, and we are here to listen and help.
